"Glorious" tells the story of Emilio Jose Chamon Ortega, a twenty-year-old bullfighter from Madrid. He has been fascinated by the event since childhood and began fighting young bulls at age eight. Four years later, Chamon enrolled in Spain’s most prestigious bullfighting school, the Venta del Batan, and spent most of his teen years as an aspiring torero, or "Novillero".
He has recently graduated and completed his "Alternativa", which is the formal investiture of an aspiring matador as a full matador. He is confirmed at the Madrid bullring in a rite of passage bullfight called the "Confirmacion".
From his family we learn of their grief and anxiety. We see his father's regret that he encouraged his son to bullfight as a child. We hear from his mother about her sacrifice and suffering and how she prays to all the saints that nothing happens to her son. We also witness the concern of Chamon’s friends and mentor. Through them we learn of bullfighting's severe competition, danger, comradeship and glory.
Among these people of Chamon’s devoted world, we watch his first bullfights, his heroes, his dreams, his fears and his willingness to face death.
